"Q" rivets , also know as "blind rivets" and "breakstem rivets", are structural rivets designed for low installed cost, blind installation, and permanent fastening using lightweight, ergonomic tooling. The design provides an internal friction lock with positive retention, good shear strength, and a measure of weather-resistance.
Installation of "Q" rivets is simple.
- Insert the rivet into the prepared hole.
- As the stem is pulled by a rivet tool, the blind portion of the rivet expands radially and pulls the application material firmly together.

When the rivet is fully expanded, the stem breaks leaving the mandrel wedged inside the rivet and the installation process is complete.
